Write a research paper answering questions on global politics and development
ASSESSMENT 1: Research Paper

Tutorial Guide from any of the first 5 topics (Weeks 1-6):
Introduction to Global Politics
Fake News! Media and Global Politics
Nationalism, Sovereignty & the State
Global Security
Inequality & Development
In preparing your 1,800 word paper you are expected to READ WIDELY from
academic and other sources. Your paper should set out your arguments
logically, using the Harvard author-date referencing system – eg (Smith 2014:
67) – including a full Reference List, and should include several original
academic references in addition to the textbook.
Some useful news sources for finding case studies to use in your paper are:
The Guardian (Australia/UK) – http://www.theguardian.com/au
ABC News (Australia) – http://www.abc.net.au/news
The Conversation (Australia) – http://theconversation.com/au
Sydney Morning Herald (Australia) – http://www.smh.com.au
BBC News (UK) – http://news.bbc.co.uk
The New York Times (US) – http://www.nytimes.com
The Washington Post (US) – https://www.washingtonpost.com
Al Jazeera (Qatar) – http://english.aljazeera.net
The Australian (Australia) – http://www.theaustralian.com.
You must also, however, use refereed academic sources in the analysis of
any case study you use, primarily scholarly refereed journal articles and
scholarly books.
The research paper should be in an essay format (these sub-headings are not
required to be included):
Introduction
Analysis and argument
Conclusion
