Thomson and Marquis Argument regarding abortion rights and morality.
Judith Jarvis Thomson in her argument defending abortion, presents quite a few thought experiments that serve to illustrate her points, of which two in particular stick out as broadly relevant to her argument. Please explain each and what exactly these examples aim to show (i.e., why they are relevant to questions regarding the mother’s right to choose to terminate a pregnancy). Don Marquis, in opposition to Thomson, argues that abortion is morally wrong. Please explain how he makes the opposing case, that is, the thing that makes abortion wrong and why. Given that Thomson focuses on rights but not necessarily on the morality of the choice, is there any way she might find some agreement with Marquis? Why or why not? Who do you think is ultimately right? Why?
