Thematic Analysis of the Film, Casablanca
hi there , this is not what i want. i want you talk about how the theme impacts your own life. you can talk about one theme. and i gave you some example down there. i do want you to talk about the movie.
For instance, you might use one of these sentences to begin your reflections:
–“One of the themes in this film that really struck me was X, because…”
–“I could identify with the theme of X because …”
–“I admire character X because …”
–“If I were character X, I would have acted differently in this way …
–“Character X showed the kind of negative traits that have impacted my life in these ways…”
And also you do not need to have a References because you are writing about how the theme impacts your own life.
1) What is a key theme of this film?(Note:many films have multiple themes.)
2) What changes took place in the lives of the main characters, and what caused these changes?
3) To what extent does each of these films show a quest for something to believe in on the part of one or more main characters? In what do they end up believing?
Write a 1-2 page reflection paper on one of the themes. The papers will focus on how the theme impacts your own life, and it is not to be just vague musings on the theme in general. Apply it to your life!

Answer preview:
One of the key themes in the film “Casablanca” that really stood out for me was that of sacrifice personal commitment. The theme of sacrifice is portrayed through the actions of Blake as he opens up the doors for his business for the anti-fascist cause even if it will mean not being together with Isla. He does this contrary to his earlier isolationist position when he said: “I stick my neck out for nobody”. Both Isla and Blaine made a number of sacrifices that make the theme to stand out so well especially at a time when the war had just started and such a theme was encouraged in the U.S. so as to show support for the country’s involvement in the war abroad. For me, self-sacrifice is important as it shows that there comes a time when the interests of the nation outweigh those of individuals.
