  • Are there ways in which these artists fall short in their critiques? Do they effectively critique the negative aspects of consumerism, commercialism, and capitalism; or do they end up replicating many of these same problematic themes and practices in their work?

  • After learning more about both sides of the discourses and debates surrounding these artists, what do you think? Do you fall more on one side or the other?
  • In their article on Warhol’s “Pop Politics,” Julia Ann Weeks discusses how Warhol’s interest in celebrity culture intersected with the American cultural and political climate of 2008. Let’s update this argument! How would you add on to what Weeks is talking about in this article/context, but reconsidered now from a 2019 perspective?
