My previous assignment / the issue I like to address as a DNP scholar.
I recently changed my mind on my topic for my eventual DNP project, working in an
urgent care clinic I have found an interest in Osteoarthritis. This is a disorder that affects
the joints as a result of wearing down of the protective cartilage at the joints due to
aging, obesity, diseases, injury from trauma (McAlindon et al., 2014). The condition can
also be genetic, hence inherited. Degeneration of the cartilage causes pain in the
affected area, joint stiffness, swollen joints, joint creaking and loss of joint motion
eventually (McAlindon et al., 2014). Several medicines have been identified to be
effective in treating symptoms associated with osteoarthritis. An example is a hyaluronic
acid, whose mechanism of action involves minimizing nerve sensitivity or nerve
impulses in the affected region (Altman et al., 2015). Therefore, this research will mainly
establish the effectiveness of hyaluronic acid intraarticular injection in patients with
osteoporosis.
This approach will help to collect values or a specific number of patients who
benefit from the hyaluronic acid injection. Techniques applicable to gather relevant
information are quantitative surveys, questionnaires, and oral interviews (Creswell,
2014). To ensure that a correct sample has been obtained, they are subjected to
laboratory test to make sure that they are suffering from osteoarthritis. The patients will
then be subjected to injections of hyaluronic acid and their response to this treatment
and results presented using graphs, charts, tables and non-textual elements. Data will
be analyzed through statistical methods such as mean, variance, standard deviation,
correlation, and regression.
In qualitative research method approach, the data will be collected through
observation, face-to-face interviews, and focus groups to get the participants insight
(Creswell, 2014). The data is captured through audio recordings, field notes and
transcripts which is then analyzed and the findings reported in textual form. The
methodology will help to gather personal views or opinions on the effectiveness of
hyaluronic acid injection. Results obtained will be analyzed through narrative or content
analysis.
This technique will merge both quantitative and qualitative methods of research. Data
collection will involve observation, questionnaires, surveys and face-to-face interviews
(Creswell, 2014). The analysis will involve narrative analysis, content analysis, and
statistical methods (Creswell, 2014).
One of the first steps in project planning is to identify a significant issue or a problem that needs to be addressed.
