Introduction Chapter 

Intro and conclsion sections intend to provide general overview about everything. High picture viewpoint, general writing. ALSO – THESE CHAPTERS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT SECTIONS. Will be read FIRST BY EXAMINERS!

à IMPORTANT:  YOU ARE TELLING A STORY!! MUST BE UNDERSTOOD AND READ LIKE A ‘FAIRY TALE’

So, so all of these secitons need to flow together , need to show this is important and connected to the body of literature, to the method, to the research question, … It’s not about writing a lot, it’s about writing things athat fit well together. The good thing is we have written the basics of everything already. It just need to be packaged here.

• Background and Motivation (1.5-2p)

– Use direct quote from literature àwhich shows gap (position it in italic, disonnect it from the actual text, like 3 lines)

Some sort of key thing, a key statement that reaklly sumarses what the research is about from someone well-known in ITG area (e.g., Peter Weill, Grembergen, W.V. or others)

– ‘Fun’ introductory example to position work in general context (1 paragraph)

A great way to start the intro is by using a real world example. In the first paragraph use some sort of real world example, a case for example that was in the news, to provide you with a nice introduction which needs to have something to do with wrong usiness-IT investement decision that for example decision on executive level didn’t go well. (It doesn’t neccesarily need to clearly talk about IT governance in the news, but we know the problem is with lack of ITG)

– Link to academic literature à and taht’s essentially theoretical gap in knowledge [include REFERENCES, short version of your 2.8 (research Gap)] (2 paragraphs)

So far should be super easy. It should be ment for general audience. Should look good, be engaging, fun to read for someone who has no idea about ITG, so they can understand and say yeah, I get this.

Do not be concerned about writing some stuff (from other chapters) over and over again. We’re writing exactly same stuff over and over again but just in different levels of abstraction. In Intro chapter, it is super absteract, very high level (Vs in Literature Review chapter which is super detailed)

– General overview of ITG and IT Investments trends/perceived importance

Again use text from literature review, talking why other authors have said ITG is imortant. With reference from literature.. Again this is big picture thinking, general overview who has no clue about ITG.
