Images of Women in Ancient Societies
The Mid-Term exam will consist of a single, short essay (5-7 paragraphs) responding to one of two topics.
You do not need a proctor for this test (only the Final is proctored). You are on your honor not to plagiarize or cheat via other means.
You must use your textbooks and discussion boards (a good rule of thumb is at least one direct quote from the textbook per paragraph) as support for the more specific thesis statements that will be given in the exam.
The two general topics (again, choose to write on one):
- Images of the Gods: how do the ancients’ stories explain their world(s) through their fears and loyalties to their god(s)?
- Images of Women: What do we see in the ancients’ societies through their depictions of women and femininity?
Take about an hour to complete your response–but be detailed and specific–a response without direct quotes from all three texts you choose will almost certainly not pass.
