•Any change in the DNA sequence is considered a mutation.

•Mutations can be:

•Small- single bp=point mutation

•Large- chromosomal level

•Types of Mutations:

–Base-pair substitution

–Base-pair additions/deletions (Indels)

–Duplication

–Deletion

–Translocation

–inversion

•Somatic-occur in body cells > affect individual only (not passed on)

•Germline- occur in gametes > affect next generation (heritable)
