As a nurse, you encounter many opportunities to create and initiate change. Speak up whenever possible to advocate for those in need. Advocating for change and conducting research in an effort to improve patient outcomes is an important part of your role as a nurse. In this assignment, you will create a communication plan as a step toward creating a platform to advocate for the resolution of problem(s) presented in the case.

  1. Navigate to the AMA Journal of Ethics website.
  2. Click the Filter Case tab.
  3. Click the Topics dropdown to filter cases that relate to access to care.
  4. Select a case that focuses on access to care and which is relevant to your current role or your concentration.

Identify the primary issue or issues of the case.

Create a communication plan that will serve as a framework for ensuring the issues identified in the case are acknowledged and acted upon.

Utilize the ethical considerations and communication strategies outlined in Health Policy and Politics on pp. 226-229 to ensure your message is presented in a way that avoids potential conflict.

Address the following in your communication plan:

  • Problem(s) presented in the case
  • Issue(s) identified
  • Why this issue is important
  • The impact on medical decision making
  • Ethical consequences
  • Proposed solution(s)
  • Model/theory framework
  • Central message
  • Target audience
  • Research needed
  • Media outlets

Format your communication plan as one of the following:

  • 10-slide presentation ( not including title and reference page ) with speaker notes

Cite at least three scholarly articles, one of which can be Health Policy and Politics.

Format your paper according to APA guidelines.
