Drug Abuse Control inAmerica
This week your research paper rough draft is due. Be sure to take a close look at the attached MLA Sample Research Paper. You should replicate this format in your rough draft. In order to receive the best feedback, you submit a full draft that is 4-5 pages in length. If you submit less than that, please notate why in the submission box.
You should complete this in MLA format, full MLA heading, MLA page numbers. in text citations, and works cited. Your works cited should only include resources that are cited in the body of your paper.
Include all of your hard work! You should have completed the article summaries, library webinar, metacommentary assignment, including your voice assignment, choosing your topic, etc. You can use material from all of these pieces to create your research paper.
Additionally, you should view the library webinar recording! This will detail how to use the library databases to find good research articles related to your topic.

Hi everyone,
My voice is still not up to creating a recording, so I am going to give you some guidelines in this announcement.
Be sure to view the sample paper and rubric included for this week. These documents are very important in helping you to create your paper.
Feel free to reference this PPT for highlights such as how to paraphrase and quote with examples, how your works cited should look, and creating a thesis statement. You are not expected to complete the activities mentioned in the PPT. Just use it as reference for your paper. The parts that are good for you to view begin on slide 10 research_paper_how_to_write.ppt
Create your draft with the following items in mind:
1) Use MLA format-refer to Purdue OWL, the Little Seagull Handbook, and the Sample Paper
2) Include an MLA cover page, page numbers with your last name included, in text citations, and a works cited page. Your paper should have all of these
3) Your final research paper should be 4-5 pages not including the cover page and works cited, so your rough draft should be at least 2-3 pages in length.
4) At this point you should have 2-3 resources (your article summaries). Use those in both the body of your paper and in your works cited.
5) You should not have anything cited in your paper that is not listed in your works cited and vice versa.
6) Use all of these pieces that you have put together so far. Look back to your Brainstorming activities, Choosing Your Topic, Including Your Voice, Metacommentary, etc. Figure out where those pieces would work best in terms of introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.
7) Be sure that you have 1-2 paragraphs that introduces your topic, your stance on the topic, and provides some background. Include 1-2 sentences at the end of these introductory paragraphs that sums up your topic and what you will discuss.
8) Utilize the techniques that you have practiced to show “They Say, I Say.” Feel free to model your analysis using templates from the textbook.
9) Proofread and/or utilize the writing center or a friend. It always helps to have an extra set of eyes.
10) Ask questions!!! If you need anything, please let me know.
