Discussion-Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) Information System at Rollex Medical Company
In the form of an individual report, this assignment requires you to investigate the
implementation of a new information system within a profit, non-profit, or public
organisation. Identify an organisation, or group of collaborating organisations, that
have recently implemented (i.e., within 5 years) an information system to improve
existing or create new value-adding business processes.
Using your chosen example, perform a business process analysis, critically analyse
the opportunities and risks associated with the new system, and discuss any
implementation issues that relating to the chosen case.
You can find suitable examples on websites such as www.rfidjournal.com and
www.informationweek.com or any other available sources.
Your report should cover the following areas:
1. System introduction: explain what the chosen information system is,
where and how it is used in the chosen organisation. (20 marks)
2. Business process analysis: describe the most significant business
process(es), with the aid of business process mapping diagram(s),
involved in your selected case to show how the system and people interact
and how the system enhances such process(es). (30 marks)
3. Opportunities and risks: critically analyse the opportunities and risks of the
implementation of the information system in the chosen organisation. (25
marks)
4. Implementation issues: discusses potential technological, managerial
and organisational issues throughout the implementing process and
recommend implementation guidelines. (25 marks)
Your report should draw on theory, tools and frameworks covered in this module,
although evidence of relevant wider reading will be rewarded.
You may not have sufficient information on the companies and technologies involved
and it is fine to make assumptions, as long as these are clearly stated and justified.
Where diagrams are used these should normally be included in the main body of
your work. If they are located in the appendix they will not have a role in the
assessment – examiners are under no obligation to read appendices.
