Assignment 3:

When we examine the public health system as a whole, we can see several different parts; health education, health communication, the public health workforce, information technology, and even non-profit organizations concerned with population health help make the public health system work.
For the Unit 3 Discussion, you chose a public health problem and an organization that is part of the public health system (local, state, federal or global health organization, non-governmental organization, or other organization) that is addressing the health problem. Using the information, you drafted for the Unit 3 Discussion and the peer feedback you received, write a minimum 500-word expository essay that addresses the following:
- Briefly describe the health problem and organization that you chose, and what they are doing to improve population health.
- How does this organization fit into the overall public health system?
- Using systems thinking, determine what other organizations inside or outside the discipline of public health would be important for your chosen organization to build relationships with to meet their goal of improving population health. Then, describe the linkages between the organizations that make them a part of the system that is needed to address the health problem.
- You may include a diagram of the ‘system’ that shows how the organizations are linked.

Hello classmates and professor,
According to an article published by (Singh & Singh, 2020), The novel Corona Virus was first discovered and reported in China in the early December of 2019; however, the official listing of COVID-19 as a disease by the World Health Organization (WHO) was on 11th February 2020. The virus compromises the host’s respiratory system and causes multiple symptoms that cause respiratory distress and even death. Since the discovery of COVID-19 and the widespread infectious disease worldwide, WHO officially declared the coronavirus as a pandemic disease in March of 2020.
World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that primarily responsible for international public health affairs. Some of the organization’s area of responsibilities is to promote health by support people’s participation in national health policies, keep the world safe by providing health emergency responds such as prevent emergencies and support development of tools necessary during outbreaks, and serve the vulnerable by addressing social determinants and prioritizing health in all policies and healthy settings (WHO, n.d.).
The world as we know it has changed drastically since the discovery of COVID-19. Its impact has caused millions of deaths all around the world and the death count is continuing to rise as we speak. Millions of families suffered the loss of a loved one, family tradition has changed, what once a busy street of Times Square has suddenly become quiet and empty among other cities. The virus has changed the world in more than one way.
The World Health Organization is actively addressing the health problem by providing constant situation updates and recommendations across all nations regarding the facts of COVID-19, advice for the public for disease preventions, updated research and development for vaccines, and treatment progress to counter the COVID-19 pandemic.
The stakeholder that WHO has been reaching out to among their vase networks is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) along with each country’s respective government agencies. CDC has a WHO collaborating center for surveillance, epidemiology, and control of influenza that deliberately researches to provide the best influenza vaccine virus selection along with comminating information to generate guidance for the public. Its role is instrumental for pandemic preparedness. (CDC, 2019). The WHO could also recommend mask requirements and additional guidance for social distancing for the government to incorporate into their safety policies and communities as some states are still hesitant to practice the wear of masks in public places.

Good afternoon everyone,
For this week’s health problem, I chose heart disease. Heart Disease can be a variety of heart disorders that affect the heart, and the most common disorder is coronary artery disease. This disease affects the blood flow of the heart, which can cause a heart attack. The organizations I chose are The Centers for Disease Control and The American Heart Association. These health agencies are joining together to help the public with the fight against heart disease. According to the CDC (2013), “A Public Health Action Plan to Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke addresses this urgent need for action. Key partners, public health experts, and heart disease and stroke prevention specialists came together to develop targeted recommendations and specific action steps toward the achievement of this goal through a process convened by CDC and its parent agency, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.” The stakeholders can also range from volunteers, employees, partners, and vendors to fight against heart disease. The American Heart Association is the leading funder of heart disease and stroke research. The organization holds annual events, healthy living advice, knowledge on health topics, and volunteer opportunities for the public to fight against heart disease. For over 100 years, this American Heart Association has helped the community live a healthier and longer life.
Thank you
