Bioethics in Nursing Practice
Please respond with a paragraph to the following post, add citations and references.
I think in the topic readings, I really liked the chapter “Christian Vision” from Bioethics: A Primer for Christians. As a Christian who happens to be a nurse, I think there is always a dilemma in the work place between our training being science and evidence-based and my personal beliefs. It is definitely a balancing act for my part because there may be issues that are raised that touches upon ethics and moral principles largely driven by my faith and beliefs. Although bioethics have rapidly grown to many systems that we have today, there is still a lot of uncertainty over many issues that arise. With this being said, the first chapter of the book was a refreshing perspective on how our beliefs, specifically Christian in this case, can co-exist with medical practice. It is up to us individually to embrace our faith while accepting the fact that this freedom of being able to advance medicine as a science is part of our God-given freedom to pursue this among other interests. This Christian worldview directly translates in the analysis of disease and healing as well. How the author describes medicine and its providers are vessels of God who is the ultimate healer. I think the author provides a good interpretation of how religiosity and science can coexist and should not be chosen one over the other. I think that this belief is one I would like to uphold in my life. There is no favoring one side over the other, medicine is a useful tool that is ultimately blessed by God to serve its purpose preserving health and wellness.
