A written response on a job description.

As I think about my current job description, I believe a lot of changes need to be made. The changes that need to be made are classroom size and parental involvement requirements.

If teachers had to agree and pick one major change, then the classroom size would be at the top of the list. The number of students in a classroom plays a huge part in how much a student can learn. I have had a class size as small as 15 and as large as 25. I can say, my smaller class was my most successful class. There was plenty room, smaller groups, less behavior problems, and more instructional happen in the small class. The large classes did not have enough space. Too many children packed in a small round have more behavior problems. The increase with behavior, reduces the instructional time. Teachers then spend to much time trying to deal with behavior and less time teaching.

Parental involvement is very important to a child and the teacher. Some parents do not come around until the end of the year. They have not showed up to one meeting, but at the end when it is time to retain a child, the parent comes wanting trying to be the parent of the year. The leadership team needs to figure out a more productive way to involve parents in their scholar’s life.
