Quantitative Research Article Review

Students are allowed to work individually or in pairs on this assignment.
Overview: The purpose of this assignment is to enhance the student’s recognition and
understanding of various research elements found in a research article. Students are
allowed to work in pairs to read and review a nursing research article. If you work in pairs,
do not just divide up the sections but work together.
Objectives: Upon completion of this module, the student should be able to:
1. Read the research article and identify elements of the research process.
2. Describe the processes used by the researcher when conducting the study:
q Identify the problem and the researcher’s justification.
q Discuss the purpose of the research study; identify the components; and create a
research question or hypothesis as appropriate.

3. Apply knowledge of the research process to the research article under review.
q Explain the “fit” of methods used with the Introduction: problem identification,
ROL, and purpose.

4. Practice writing skills and apply knowledge of APA formatting.
Guidelines
 Locate and choose one of the scholarly research articles posted in D2L.
 Your review must be written as a scholarly paper and submitted using APA formatting
rules. General APA Guidelines:
o Your paper should be typed, double-spaced on standard-sized page (8.5" x 11")
with 1" margins on all sides. You should use a clear font that is highly readable.
APA recommends using 12 pt. Times New Roman font.
o Include a page header  (also known as the "running head") at the top of every
page. The running head is a shortened version of your paper's title and cannot
exceed 50 characters including spacing and punctuation. (see sample)
o Major Paper Sections: Your paper should include three major sections: the Title
Page, Main Body, and References.
o The paper should be no more than 5 pages excluding the Title page.
 Be brief but give sufficient detail so the instructor is clear of your understanding. (Hint:
don’t just repeat the questions!)
