Reflective Paper: Simulated IPE Case Scenario

Reflective Paper: Simulated IPE Case Scenario

A detailed case scenario built on the opioid epidemic or a similar social and public health problem will be made available to students online. Students from two disciplines, namely public health and graduate social work, and counselor education, will come together in an online session to analyze the scenario and discuss interventions. A series of leading questions will prompt students to assess the situation, determine the needs of those affected, mobilize teams, identify key roles and responsibilities of members of the team, and suggest how best to meet the needs of those affected. The online session will be facilitated and supervised by the faculty representing the two professions. Students are expected to demonstrate appropriate communication and team efforts in their assigned groups.

Part I: Each student, after participation in the online simulated IPE session, will develop a two-page narrative (single spaced; font size 12 pitch Times Roman or equivalent) that provides a situation analysis, identifies the roles and responsibilities with task delineation for each professional; and recommends management of the disaster addressed. This assignment will be evaluated using a rubric, developed in consultation with the inter-disciplinary faculty. The rubric will be shared with students prior to their participation in the simulated session. THIS PART IS DONE.

Part II: Each student, after participation in the online simulated IPE session, will develop a one-page narrative (single spaced; font size 12 pitch Times Roman or equivalent) that offers a thoughtful reflection on what worked well: what did not; suggestions for change; and lessons learned from the session. This assignment will be evaluated using a rubric that will be shared with students prior to their participation in the simulated session.
