Learning in the Shadow of Race and Class.

We are now working through the concepts and readings for our unit on education borders–the barriers that gatekeep us out of a successful education or make it difficult to thrive in the classroom and in academia. Continuing to add to what we have already read so far, I want us to consider the race and class and how that impacts education, particularly with this essay by bell hooks. In this narrative, bell hooks describes her life as a young, Black woman. She illustrates two different college settings, and she relates them around a central ideas of race and class.
