INTRODUCTION Homicide that involves a multi-agency response has the potential to be a high-profile crime, with multiple crime scenes and, in some instances, multiple victims. Because of these potential variations, and because of the vast span of possible agency involvement, preparation can present challenges. Learning from the past is one potential starting point from a training and preparation standpoint. It is not uncommon to turn to the community, in varying capacities, for help when it comes to these crimes. Looking to the past to analyze scene response and investigation is a valuable starting point for criminal justice practitioners. Doing so allows for the identification of best practices that can be used as a foundation. Using past investigations also enables problems to be identified, and measures to be taken in an effort to ensure the same mistakes are not made in the future. INSTRUCTIONS Research an example of a multi-agency response to a homicide with community involvement in some facet of the response or investigation. Using your researched homicide, in a 3–4 page paper, addressing the following: Summarize the multi-agency homicide investigation. Describe the role of the agencies involved in the investigation, based on applicable rules and procedures. Analyze the role of the community in the multi-agency investigation homicide investigation. Determine two best practices that could be utilized in future multi-agency homicide investigations. Cite a minimum of two academically verified references to support your statements.
