Pick 1 Topic Question

1. “A & P” (Updike 437): What does Sammy’s description of the shoppers in the A & P as “sheep” and “houseslaves” tell us about him? Does his judgment seem fair or biased? Additionally, how did his description and admiration differ from the shoppers to the girls in the A & P? Use at least one citation to support your claim.

2. “Boys and Girls” (Munro 400): How might this story be different if it did not end with the horses? More importantly, what do you think the horses symbolize? How do you know? Use at least one citation to support your claim.

Responses must be typed, double-spaced, in Times New Roman Font size 12, with your name, date, and the assignment title in the upper left-hand corner of page one. Your last name and the page number should be on the top right-hand corner of each page. Late papers will be accepted for one class meeting after the established deadline, with a 10-point deduction.
